Tenemos el placer de presentar a la comunidad numismática la obra Septimio Severo, Reinado y Acuñaciones. Éste no es un libro de historia propiamente dicho. Tampoco pretende ser un catálogo exhaustivo de las acuñaciones del reinado de Septimio Severo. Se trata, más bien, de una comunión entre ambos conceptos bibliográficos; un intento de relacionar, de enlazar, los hechos históricos con las acuñaciones monetales contemporáneas.
En algunos casos serán los hechos históricos del reinado de Septimio Severo los que arrojen luz sobre determinadas emisiones, algo oscuras o imprecisas desde el punto de vista simbólico-iconográfico. En otros, sucederá lo contrario: serán las monedas la que vengan en nuestra ayuda a la hora de aclarar tal o cual suceso, precisar tal o cual fecha, etc., tomando el relevo allá donde las fuentes escritas se quedan sin resuello. Incluso habrá ocasiones en que un determinado acontecimiento sólo nos será conocido, o al menos vislumbrado, por la huella que dejara en las acuñaciones del momento. Todo con un único objetivo: conocer el reinado de Septimio Severo a través de su legado numismático y viceversa.

We are pleased to present to the numismatic community the book Septimius Severus, Reign and Coinage. This is not a history book per se. Nor is it intended to be an exhaustive catalog of the coinage of the reign of Septimius Severus. Rather, it is a communion between both bibliographic concepts; an attempt to relate, to link, historical facts with contemporary coinage.
Sometimes it will be the historical events of the reign of Septimius Severus that shed light on certain emissions, somewhat obscure or imprecise from the symbolic-iconographic point of view. In others, the opposite will happen: it will be the coins that come to our aid when it comes to clarify this or that event, specifying this or that date, etc., taking over where written sources run out of breath. There will even be times when a certain event will only be known to us, or at least glimpsed, because of the mark it left on the coinage of the moment. All with a single objective: to know the reign of Septimius Severus through his numismatic legacy and vice versa.
